Step 1: 

Break the coconut carefully into two halves. 

Note: Do it carefully, or else ask an experienced to help you. 

Step 2: 

Use a coconut scraper to scrape the flesh, or else use a knife to scoop the flesh out of the husky exterior and use a grater to grate it. 

Step 3: 

Heat up some water and add in the grated coconut. 

Step 4:

You can put this mixture in a blender and blend it until smooth. Then strain it out with a cheesecloth for an extra creamy texture. 

Note: You can add water as per your preferred thickness of the milk. 

Now, if you store this milk as is, there might be a layer of fat formed on the top of the container. This is just the fat that has separated, also known as coconut cream, and it is completely safe to consume.
